Curtain coating applicator for a moving web has an air extraction unit in the moving coating curtain path for effective removal of micro air bubbles for a consistent surface cover at high web speeds and large web widths
The applicator station, to spread a coating on one or both sides of a moving paper or cardboard web, is a curtain coating station (1) where the coating medium (3) falls in a curtain (4) by gravity to the moving web (B) surface (5) or a coating transfer roller. An air extraction unit (7) is at the path of the falling coating curtain. The applicator station to coat the surface(s) of a moving web has an air extraction unit directly after the exhaust gas jet (2) of the applicator, as a sieve with a tight mesh, a filter fabric and the like. The sieve has a mesh width of 50-1500 mu m and preferably 100 mu m. The air extraction unit has a take-off (10) to one side for any foam (11) which has developed. The coating curtain has a length of -50 mm and preferably -250 mm, with a number of air extraction units deployed over each other.
