Intermittent fuel delivery to engine combustion chambers involves modulating fuel pressure on valve side over injection period, starting lower than common rail reservoir and ending higher
The method involves feeding fuel from a common rail pressure reservoir via a fuel line and injection valves to each cylinder. The fuel line is divided into sections by a choke. The fuel pressure is modulated on the valve side during an injection process. At the start of the injection process the fuel pressure is lower than the pressure in the common rail reservoir, is subsequently equal and finally greater. The method involves feeding the fuel from a common rail pressure reservoir (8) via a fuel line (9) and injection valves (5) to each cylinder (6). Fuel is injected directly into a combustion chamber (3) when its nozzle needle (28) is raised from the valve seat. The fuel line is divided into sections on the pressure reservoir and valve sides by a choke (21). The fuel pressure is modulated on the valve side over the time interval of an injection process, whereby at the start of the injection process the fuel pressure is lower than the pressure in the common rail reservoir, is subsequently equal and finally greater. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for intermittent delivery of fuel to internal combustion engine combustion chambers.
