PURPOSE: A method for improving cleanliness of molten steel by lowering oxygen potential of slag in ultra-low carbon steel making process is provided. CONSTITUTION: Molten steel(4), along with ladle slag(9), is introduced into an RH degassing facility(2) where oxygen potential of the ladle slag is adjusted to the same level of that of molten steel for optimal decarburization. In this step, the amount of slag to be introduced into the RH degassing facility is less than 50 % of total amount of ladle slag. After decarburization, alumina is injected through a deoxidant port(11) for deoxidation. Right after alumina injection, soft burned dolomite is injected into the RH degassing facility to prevent reoxidation of molten steel.
