PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for making color filters are provided to manufacture an optical component capable of making uniform the planar optical characteristics of the optical component, i.e., the light transmission characteristics of a color filter, the color display characteristics of a liquid crystal device, the light-emission characteristics of an electro-luminescent surface. CONSTITUTION: A method for making color filters aligned on a large-size mother substrate includes the steps of: a step of moving one of an inkjet head(22) and the large-size mother substrate in a first-scanning direction(X) relative to the other, wherein the inkjet head(22) has a nozzle line(28) provided with a plurality of nozzle groups each including a plurality of nozzles(27); a step of selectively discharging a filter material from the plurality of nozzles(27) to form the plurality of filter elements; and a step of moving one of the inkjet head(22) and the large-size mother substrate in a second-scanning direction(Y) relative to the other so that at least a part of each nozzle group is capable of scanning the same section of the large-size mother substrate in the first direction.
