The machine is a transverse flux variable reluctance Vernier effect design with (g) groups of magnetic circuits, each circuit of a group being excited by a winding (13) fed from one of (q) phases of a polyphase system. The ratio between stator and rotor poles is 1+n/q , n being an even number. The rotor poles are polarized by a short circuited coil in the rotor magnetic circuit (21) or alternatively use of high remanence material for the rotor magnetic circuit.
