The production of monoliths of activated carbon involves chemical activation of carbon material, such as lignocellulose or mineral carbon, using a chemical agent in solution, such as zinc dichloride, phosphoric acid or its salts or alkali. The impregnated particles are pressed prior to carbonization. The product obtained, optionally, can be physically activated with a gas, such as carbon dioxide, steam or oxygen.
