The twin-needle chain stitch sewing machine, using three or four threads, has a needle plate (1) with a stitching tongue projecting in the direction of fabric travel between two thread guide slits at the needle holes. The stitching tongue (7) has a folding rib (8) projecting over the level of the upper side of the needle plate. It extends back, against the direction (V) of fabric travel, over the needle hole (3, 4) zone. It is aligned at the folding groove of a presser foot around it. The needle plate, for a twin-needle chain stitch sewing machine, has a guide spur (12) like the seam, aligned downwards and inwards to define the outermost thread guide slit (6). It has a guide shoulder (13) projecting against the direction of fabric travel and with an upwards and inwards alignment, to form a guide gap (14) for the fabric. The exit end (9) of the folding rib is bent outwards. The needle plate can be followed by a press roller.
