The proposed hypertext network (5, 7) and method for displaying user selectable information modules (30) in such hypertext network (5, 7) are intended for use in an interactive data processing system (10). The hypertext network (5, 7) comprises a plurality of user selectable information modules (30). At least some of these modules (30) include a link reference phrase (32, 36) to some another user selectable target module (30). In response to a user selection input a link reference phrase (32, 36) is identified in the user selected information module (30) to another user selectable target module (30). There is determined accessibility of the other user selectable target module (30) corresponding to the identified link reference phrase (32, 36) and the identified link reference phrase (32, 36) is selectively activated or deactivated in response to the determined accessibility of the other user selectable target module (30). The identified link reference phrase (32, 36) can be selectively activated or deactivated based on a user class or user authority. The corresponding target module (30) can be selected in response to the identified user class or user authority.
