DIGITAL TRANSMISSION PROGRAMS FOR A TERMINAL IN A TELEVISION NETWORK ". A method and system for selecting and ordering television programs (197) uses an electronic programming guide (310) that can be transmitted to subscribers or posted on an Internet site (10). The system allows national broadcasters (110) to provide one or more pay-per-view or subscription channels and to establish a mechanism for charging subscribers to access programs. Subscribers can access the Internet (105) and submit a program request to the network's website (106). An authorization (196) is then sent to a collection center (194) and to a local transmitter (114). The billing center (194) debits the subscriber's account, or prepares a bill. The local transmitter (114) sends the authorization to the subscriber. The authorization (196) includes a program code and a terminal identifier (197) which allows the subscribing television (170) or the device top terminal (220) to decrypt and display the program (197).
