PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parallel monitoring system for serial communication in a computer integrated manufacturing system which can prevent breaking of operation by connecting the connected equipment unit to a direct host computer when a fault occurs in an extended computer integration unit. SOLUTION: In a normal operation state of the extended computer integration unit 30, the parallel monitoring system 100 for serial communication connects the equipment unit 20 to the integration unit 30 and also makes it communicate with the host computer 10. If the integration unit 30 is in a state of fault, the monitoring system 100 switches the equipment unit 20 to consecution with the host computer 10, and production process control being in progression in the equipment unit 20 is shifted to direct control of the host computer 10. Accordingly, the progress of a total production process of the computer integrated manufacturing system is not affected by the breaking of operation.
