PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take a geologic survey of an existent tunnel while minimizing restrictions on tunnel passage.;SOLUTION: The geologic survey is taken by installing impact receiving devices 12 on the passage surface A of the existent tunnel 10 and exciting them by an exciting device 16 such as a hydraulic impactor. A hydraulic small- sized exciting machine which can travel by itself is used as an excitation source and then even the existent tunnel for which explosives excitation such as blasting can not be adopted can safely and easily be surveyed. According to the geologic survey result, it is decided whether tunnel deterioration is caused by the ground state and proper maintenance measures for the deterioration place of the existent tunnel can be taken. Or geologic information is obtained which is needed to expand the width of the tunnel 10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
