PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring method for spent nuclear fuel storage vessel, capable of easily monitoring integrity of the storage vessel and a spent nuclear fuel storage system provided with the monitor. SOLUTION: The monitoring device 60 comprises a beam surface plate 62, placed on the secondary lid 52 surface of a canister 14 contained in a concrete cask 10, a light source 63 arranged outside the concrete cask, a camera 64, and a monitor 65. The light source causes light to irradiate on the light beam surface plate through a transmission hole 23 formed in the lid 20 of the concrete cask and the camera photographs a fringe pattern, produced on the beam surface plate by the light illumination. The image of the beam surface plate 62 photographed with the camera 64 is displayed on a monitor 65. By monitoring the variation of the curvature of the secondary lid surface based on the variation of the pattern caused on the beam surface plate, integrity of the canister is monitored.
