PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material which makes obtainable an organic electrolyte secondary battery excellent in the charge-discharge cycle characteristics at a high temperature, a method for manufacturing the active material, and an organic electrolyte secondary battery incorporating the active material, yielded by the method, and excellent in the charge-discharge cycle characteristics at high temperature. SOLUTION: Compound(s) selected among aluminum compound, cobalt compound, and nickel compound is mixed with dimanganese trioxide obtained by subjecting manganese oxide to a heat treatment at 550-750 deg.C, zinc compound, and lithium compound, and the product is pressurized by the air so that the oxygen partial pressure becomes 0.04-1 MPa and is subjected to a heating process for 1-40 hr at a heating temperature 600-900 deg.C, followed by gradual cooling to 500 deg.C at a temperature falling speed of 10 deg.C/min or below, and thereby the intended positive electrode active material is manufactured which has a composition expressed by (Li1-wZnw)8a [Mn2-x-yMlyLix]16dO4, where Ml is Al, Co or Ni and the conditions should be met as 0w=0.1, 0=x=0.1, and 0y=0.1, and using this positive electrode active material the intended organic electrolyte secondary battery is established.
