PURPOSE: To provide a system capable of speedily retrieving a similar graphic. ;CONSTITUTION: An object rectangle feature quantity arithmetic means 42 calculates the number of graphic elements in each rectangular area. An arithmetic means 48 reads the rectangular area graphic quantity of a circular graphic, finds the correlativity with the object graphic, and calculates object circle correlativity. An arithmetic means 46 calculates the number of graphic elements in each sectional area. A terminal-side sending-out means 47 sends the object circle correlativity and the sectional area feature quantity of the object area to a host-side terminal 100. A 1st similarity arithmetic means 102 compares the object circle correlativity with reference circle correlativity to calculate 1st similarity and selects only a graphic which exceeds a specific value. An arithmetic means 107 calculates the correlativity between the sectional area feature quantity of the 1st selected graphic and the feature quantity of the object graphic. An arithmetic means 108 calculates 2nd similarity and decides a graphic which exceeds the specific value as a 2nd selected graphic. A sending-out means 105 reads data on the 2nd selected graphic out of a storage means 101 and sends the data to a terminal device 50 through a communication line.
