PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise the utilizable density of optical beam by arranging a specified number of throttles in a gas discharge lamp filled with gas and provided with a throttle having an opening for throttling arc discharge, to be generated between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. ;SOLUTION: In this discharge lamp, a glass bulb in which a housing 2 including a positive electrode 3 and a negative electrode 4 is arranged and which is filled with hydrogen, mercury, metal halide or rare gas and which is made of quartz glass or high silicate glass, is provided and a throttle, which is made of the high-melting point material (for example, molybdenum) and which has an opening for throttling arc discharge to be generated between the positive electrode 3 and the negative electrode 4, is provided between the positive electrode 3 and the negative electrode 4, and the negative electrode 4 is arranged on the outside of an axis of a beam passage 5 output from the throttle. Two or more throttles 6, 7, 8 having openings 10, 11, 12 are arranged along the axis 5 of the beam passage respectively with space intervals, desirably at 0.5-2mm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
