I discloses a method of screening for tumor progression (57) to the transition state or [summary] tumor. The screening method, the Fourier transform of the DNA samples - based on the characterization of the DNA by principal component analysis of spectral data obtained by infrared spectroscopy. This method is applicable to a wide range of cancer types and DNA samples. Model developed using the discrimination analysis and a multivariate normal distribution equation is particularly well suited to distinguish metastatic cancerous tissue the primary cancer tissue.
