The digital image compression method has an image (1) which is converted to luminance levels (11) . Then the image is transformed to a wavelet image (111). The wavelet image is divided into a sequence of image parts (211) ,associating each square with the image source. The frequency contents of the squares is determined providing an index. The squares of an image source are then coded with a specific coding.
