An aluminum based alloy containing boron, with a capacity to absorb neutrons, a capacity to conserve the sub-criticality of fuel assemblies and good high temperature characteristics, contains 0.5-10 wt.% boron with a composition of isotopic elements satisfying a relationship of 10B/(10B + 11B) - 30%, the boron being present under the form of a boron compound that possesses dimensions of 300 microns m or less. An Independent claim is included for the production of the above aluminum-based alloy containing boron.
