The system a coulomb flow measurement and Ohm's Law to estimate probable charge remaining. The procedure includes determining the estimated state of charge (Se) of a battery by a coulomb-based method. This included the integration of the current exchanged by the battery with the outside, and calculation by an estimating method based on Ohm's Law, leading to an estimate of the remaining charge. The relaxation of the battery is modelled by dividing its active material into particles (9) forming a reservoir zone (Z2) containing non-available lithium, and an effective charge zone (Z1) containing immediately available lithium. The flux between the two zones is an indication of the changing state of charge, and this is taken into account in determining the state of charge using the model.
