The watermark insertion method has a digital image modified by the watermark. A coefficient (E36) near to a representative coefficient is found. A dictionary selection is made (E37) of nearby coefficients following predetermined criteria. The representative coefficients are modified (E39) with the watermark signal following the coefficients selected by the dictionary.
