Process for treating and immunizing plants against the degenerative effects of attack by the larvae of xylophagous insects. The process is effected by artificially inducing the production of phytoplasmic cells in the plants, these cells being capable of destroying the larvae. Production may be induced by deposition or production of a solution of the excrement of the larvae following their attack and digestion of the same plant species. This production of phytoplasmic cells being preferably effected by direct injection of the excrement solution into the plant. The solution is preferably obtained from the larvae of the same insect species that infest the plant, but it may also be obtained from any insect species that is capable of ingesting the vegetable species that is to be protected. The phytoplasmic cells may also be induced by treating the plant with a systemic insecticide, which destroys the predatory insects and produces a larval mucus from their cadavers which encourages the production of phytoplasmic cells.
