An aqueous flow colonized by Legionella is treated with a pulsed electric field. An Independent claim is included for treating Legionella as above. Preferred Features: The flow is continuous or intermittent. The field is parallel or transverse to the flow. The field intensity = 1 kV/cm and delivers - 100 V/cm to the flow. Up to 200 pulses at 40 - 60 Hz are delivered. The pulse shape can be triangular, trapezoidal, exponentially decaying or sinusoidal. The pulse duration is 1 - 20 ms, preferably 10 ms. The pulses may be uniform or varied.
