The access ramp, located between the rear of a follower train (3a) and the track (6a) carrying the service train, consists of horizontal (20) and inclined (30) sections made from parallel lengthwise members (21, 31) connected by transverse rods (24, 34) and resting on the track by means of sliders (45). Each lengthwise member comprises a vertical web (21a, 31a) between upper (21b, 31b) and lower (21c, 31c) sole plates and has a rail (23) on each upper sole plate. The forward end of each horizontal section is shaped to engage with a recess (40) at the back of the follower train.
