PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing the selectivity of epoxide in an epoxidation of an olefin. ;SOLUTION: The selectivity of olefin epoxidation using titanium silicalite is improved by performing the epoxidation in the presence of a minor amount of a nonbasic salt such as lithium chloride, sodium nitrate, potassium sulfate, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate or the like. For example, when hydrogen peroxide is reacted with propylene to form propylene oxide, a non-selective ring-opening reaction of the propylene oxide is suppressed when the low concentration of the nonbasic salt is added to the hydrogen peroxide feed. Consequently the selectivity of epoxide can be significantly improved without exerting a bad influence on the conversion ratio of hydrogen peroxide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
