According to a method for detecting an emergency braking situation or a suspected emergency braking situation of a vehicle, the foot movements of the driver are evaluated. The method is characterised in that a backward movement of the foot of the driver is detected by the gas pedal of the vehicle and used as a criterion for detecting an emergency braking situation or a suspected emergency braking situation.
