An input device is operated by user to input spectrometric measurement wavelengths, groups of variables and symbols. The input symbols defining variables are used to define a computational formula according to preset rules. Spectrophotometer measures sample for input wavelengths. Computing device analyzes existence of characters in formula and processes formula only when substitutional measurement values are available for the analyzed variables.
