The arrangement has a device (18) for varying the quantity of air delivered to the engine (11), a device (31) for deciding whether the engine is being operated in a define deceleration state or not and a device (31) for controlling the air quantity according to a current revolution rate and a desired revolution rate. A reduction device reduces the air quantity according to the difference if the defined acceleration state is detected.
