The detecting system is designed with a control circuit (32) in such a manner that it closes the switch (20) according to the ignition control signal (EST), in order to produce a closing voltage (Vclosing) for the voltage bias of a sparking plug (22) connected with the secondary winding (18) of the ignition coil (14). A measuring circuit (28) is coupled with the secondary winding (18) and is designed in such a manner, that it produces an ion measuring signal (VION), which represents an ion stream (IION) produced in response to the closing bias voltage (VSCHLIESSEN). A capacitor (76) can produce bias voltage.
