Combination of a urease inhibitor, e.g. N-diaminophosphoryl urea, and a nitrification inhibitor, e.g. 3-methyl-pyrazole, which can improve the efficiency of urea-containing fertilizers
A combination of (i) a urease inhibitor of formula (I) and (ii) 1H-1,2,4-triazole and/or a compound of formula (II) is used to improve the N-utilization of urea-containing fertilizers. Chemical composition comprises: (a) a urease inhibitor of formula (I); and (b) 1H-1,2,4-triazole (III) and/or a compound of formula (II) (or a salt, isomer or complex of (II). X = O or S; Z = O, S or NR2; R2 = H or 1-8C alkyl; R1 = (i) phenyl (when Z = O or S), or (ii) H, 1-4C alkyl, R3R4N-C(Y) or R5OOC (when Z = NR2); R3, R4 = H, or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, arylcarbonylamino, alkylcarbonylamino or aralkylcarbonylamino (in each of which alkyl groups contain 1-8C and aryl groups contain 6-10C); or NR3R4 = 1H-1,2,4-triazolyl, or a 3(5)-methylpyrazolyl group which is optionally substituted in the 4 position; R5 = 1-8C alkyl, 6-10C aryl or 7-10C aralkyl (all optionally substituted); Y = O, S or NH; R6 = H, guanyl, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl or 1-4C carboxyalkyl; R7 = H or 1-5C alkyl; R8 = H, 1-8C alkyl or halo.
