The thermionic emitter is mounted on emitter legs (2,3) formed by current leads connected to connector elements (4,5) and has an emission surface formed by conducting tracks (7) in spiral or meander-shaped slots (6). The emitter legs have or are connected together by compensation devices (10) that compensate for deformations caused by heating the emission surface and keep the transition points (9) between the emitter and legs substantially free of stress.
