The valve (101) has a stepped passage with an upstream passage (111), at entry, issuing into an upstream chamber (A) and a relatively larger diameter downstream passage (112) issuing into a downstream chamber (B). A shoulder (113) into which the upstream passage is issued into is defined by the two passages to form a valve seat (114) which cooperates with a magnetic closure member (115), via a magnet (116) at the seat level. A choke passage (110) connects the valve interior, downstream from the seat, to the downstream chamber, and issues into the downstream passage adjacent the shoulder in a zone not covered by the magnet. A return spring (117) acts on the closure member to bias it towards the valve seat. An independent claim is included for a doorstop for motor vehicles, arranged to connect two articulated components (door/ bodywork) in order to hold them in any given position.
