Rain sensor and protective mechanism for automatically operated motor car folding hood senses obstructions to closing movement and persons caught in closing mechanism
The rain sensor is inserted in the spar/seating surface of the hood above the windscreen. Its surface is heated to evaporate any water deposited. The protective device monitors the actuating motor current a change indicating presence of an obstruction. The closing operation ceases, the hood reopens and the closing operation is initiated once more. Simple earth leakage systems attached to parts of the closing mechanism trip the motor if passers-by are trapped in mechanism.
