The gauge for laying tiles is an extended rectangular cuboid which is adjustable in its length by an amount calculated in accordance with a mathematical formula with one dependent value being the length of a tile edge. The gauge on the ends of the cuboid has arms terminating flush with these ends at right angles. The gauge preferably has a length equating to the square root of 2 times the length of a tile edge. The arms are rotatable in the principal plane of the cuboid remaining parallel to one another.
