Calender for processing web materials, has a structure of three rollers where two are mounted on swing levers to move between working/parked positions for a selected pair as required from the three in an easily changed configuration
Calender has a structure of three rollers where two are mounted on swing levers to move between working/parked positions for a selected pair as required from the three in an easily changed configuration. The calender has a frame for the rollers. The first roller (3) can be displaced from the working position where it forms a nip (11) with the third roller (5) into a parked position. The second roller (4) is moved out of its working position where it forms a nip (11) with the third roller (5) into a second parked position.. The two working positions match, and the parked position of each roller (3,4) is sufficiently offset from the third roller (5) to allow movement of the other rollers (3,4) into and out of their parked positions into and from the working positions. The first and second roller (3,4) are each moved together with their drives and any supply lines. The first roller is moved by a swing lever (8) and the second roller (4) is moved by a further swing lever (18), both mounted at the frame (2) on swing axes (9,19). Each swing lever (8,18) is set in relation to the frame (2) on the side of a press plane opposite to the swing axes (9,19), running through the roller axes of the rollers (3,4,5) forming the nip (11). The swing lever (8,18) in the working position can be locked to the swing lever (18,8) in the parked position. Each swing lever (8,18) has a drilling (23) which is aligned with a drilling at the other swing lever in the extended position, and a bolt is passed through the drillings (23), parallel to the swing axes (9,19). Each swing lever (8,18) has an adjustment unit to set its working position, using a setting mechanism working with the frame (2). One setting unit (32) works with the frame (2) and the other setting unit works with the other swing lever (18,8). Each swing lever has a limit stop (36,37) for its parked position. In the parked position, each swing lever (8,18) is pitched at a max. angle which allows the other swing lever to move through the other parked position without a collision. The swing levers (8,18) are twin-armed levers, which pivot on their swing axes (9,19) for the rollers (3,4) on one side, and are linked to swing drives (10,20) on the other side. The levers have a twin-wall structure, gripping around both sides of a mounting strap at the frame (2). Each swing lever (8,18) has a locking plate (22) at the end towards the other swing lever (18,8), to pass between the side walls of the other lever. The rollers (3,4) are fitted to their swing levers (8,18) on release mountings.
