Clock with a light element (2) and a dial display (3) with an object (4) arranged between the light element and dial display so that a shadow (8) is thrown on to the dial. The light element used is not the sun but a terrestrial light source, such as an electric light, an optical wave guide for transmitting sunlight or other light, a mirror, etc. Light source and shadow throwing object can be moved as desired so that they throw a shadow that indicates the correct time according to day, night, season, light saving summer-time adjustments, etc.
