The optoelectronic switch has a light signal provided by at least one light-emitting element (1,3) and received by a light detection element (2) after reflection by an object in a defined operating position, to provide an electrical signal dependent on the intensity of the received light signal, which is evaluated, for altering the condition of a switch element (18). The signal variation corresponding to the object movement is evaluated by the evaluation device, for operation of the switch element when the indicated movement conforms to a given movement pattern.
