The structure comprises a main bearing structure (1, 2) and an intermediate structure (11, 12) of silicium carbide for taking up the weight of the charges (30) to be fired and set in a bed of insulating material (21). Height-adjustable bearing elements (10, 40) are used to raise the intermediate structure to a height where the bearing structure is protected by an intermediate layer of insulating material from reaching a higher temperature than the limit temperature specified for the use of the material forming the bearing structure. Structural elements (22, 24) passing through the top layer of insulating material transfer the weight of the charges to the intermediate structure and the thickness of the insulating layer above the intermediate structure is fixed so that the latter does not reach any higher temperature than the limit of the material of the intermediate structure.
