End sections of e.g. a water pipe are linked by a housing containing a swivel flap which in the closed position rests against a ring and O-ring seal on the surrounding housing wall. The O-ring axial end-faces extend beyond the end of the flap housing, enveloping the supporting ring with a U-shaped extension. The assembly incorporates an adapter (8) with an outer thread (10).
