The roof rail has a tubular gallery rail (1) provided at each end with a rail foot (2) of the same metallic material as the gallery rail, with a bottom end attached to the automobile roof and a top end provided with a plug-in element (3) fitted into the gallery rail, limited by a stop shoulder (6). The rail foot is formed from a tubular section with a diameter corresponding to that of the plug-in element, which is widened out from the stop shoulder, via a high-pressure deforming process.
