Apparatus for empirical quality control of microdroplets on transparent substrate comprises using a homogeneous, extended light source (10) which illuminates one side of the substrate, where droplets are deposited. Apparatus for empirical quality control of microdroplets on transparent substrate comprises using a homogeneous, extended light source (10) which illuminates one side of the substrate, where droplets are deposited. An imaging unit (12) (e.g. camera) on the other side, receives light passing through. This unit (12) produces an image, a pattern (14, 16). A further unit analyses this pattern, which arises from the lens effect of the droplets. An Independent claim is included for quality control using the apparatus.
