The method involves applying an electric field during the filling process with a field strength of 0.1 to 50 Volts per micron. A nematic liquid crystal medium that is used in the display cell is homeotropically oriented when in the rest state. The liquid crystal material is dielectrically negative. An Independent claim is also included for the use of a LCD, and for a LCD.
