The hearing protector is especially an ear plug (11) for insertion into the ear canal to prevent unwanted noise from reaching the user's (10) ear (12) and has an integrated transducer, especially a loudspeaker that emits the wanted acoustic signals. The acoustic transducer can be connected to a signal generator, especially an alarm clock (15), an alarm bell (16), a telephone (17), a doorbell (18), a mobile telephone (19) or an intercom system.. An Independent claim is also included for a method of protecting the ears against unwanted noise.
