Decolorization of diamonds, e.g. with brownish or yellowish color, uses high energy radiation to create lattice defects and heating in salt melt before and after using ultraviolet radiation to heal defects and remove impurities
Decolorization of diamonds, especially with a brownish and/or yellowish color, comprises: (a) exposing the diamond to high-energy radiation, so that defects develop in the crystal lattice; (b) tempering in an alkali metal salt me (c) exposing to ultraviolet (UV) radiation to heal the lattice defects and remove impurities; and (d) tempering in an alkali metal salt melt.
