According to the present invention there is provided a method and apparatus for decisively squelching a communication circuit delivered by a ring transmission system and having a combination of multiple drop, multiple source and multiple broadcasts, the method comprising: (a) location of a failed ring node; Identifying a failing ring node in a ring transmission system having a plurality of devices, (b) identifying an active communication circuit at a given ring node, and (c) a first downstrip adjacent from a given ring node.
