PURPOSE: Provided is a process for preparing activated carbon fiber containing metals(Cu, Zn, Cr, v, Mo, Ti, Fe, etc.) for a catalyst, which has excellent gas absorbing efficiency and can be used for the manufacture of a gas mask. CONSTITUTION: This process comprises the steps of: heat treating naphtha cracking bottom oil in a modification reactor to produce precursor pitch; adding a specified amount of metal oxide; spinning the mixture to produce pitch fiber; oxidizing the pitch fiber and carbonizing to produce carbon fiber; activating the carbon fiber with a mixed gas of nitrogen and steam at a specified temperature; and mixing the active carbon fiber with distilled water containing metal oxide.
