A method for economic valuation of the environmental impact of electrical systems, equipment and products is disclosed, whereby the predominant environmental parameters related to the use of the electrical products are translated into monetary terms. A database is described that includes data about energy mixes for various geographical regions throughout the world. The energy mixes result in various amounts of the predominant emissions, CO2, NOx and SO2 related to energy losses. The emissions related to the energy losses incurred during the operation of the electrical products are translated into monetary units. The emissions can be valued by such monetary costs as regional and/or national taxes, retrofit costs to reduce emissions, restoration costs, emissions trading, etc. These readily understandable monetary units are associated with the environmental impact of using the electrical systems, electricity generating, transmission or distribution equipment and electrically powered products. The valuations may be used for the marketing and purchase of electrical apparatus.
