The invention relates to an intracavity frequency-doubled diode-pumped laser. The aim of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means withwhich interfering capacity variations of the laser radiation produced by meansof the non-linear optical crystal at the beginning of the capacity adjustmentcan be avoided while at the same time preventing capacity-reducing elements inthe resonator and thermal effects from having negative effects on the laserbehavior. To this end, the laser contains a solid body as the laser-activemedium which has a temperature gradient that is substantially parallel to theresonator axis. The laser radiation of a laser fundamental wave length isconverted to a laser radiation of another wave length by means of a non-linearoptical crystal with a lower effectiveness than required for obtaining themaximum capacity of the converted laser radiation. The inventive laser isespecially useful for medical purposes, for example in the field ofophthalmology for coagulating the retina, but also in the field of dermatology.
