The invention relates to a controller (24; Fig. 1, 2; Fig. 12-17) for a brushless DC motor (1) without position sensorincluding an inverter (22) adapted to drive the motor (1)under chopper control and utilizing a counter electromotiveforce generated in stator coils (U, V, W) of respective phasesas a rotor (3) is rotated in order to detect a position of therotor and thereby to generate a commutation signal, saidcontrol system comprising means (50, 51) to detect a magnitudeof current flowing through said motor (1) and means (52) toinhibit the position detection based on the electromotiveforce immediately after commutation has occurred based on theoutput from said current detecting means.
