PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for benzaldehyde of high selectivity by a catalytic liquid phase air oxidation of toluene. ;SOLUTION: This improved method for production of benzaldehyde is carried out at 60-130°C under 1-10 bar of pressure for 0.5-1.5 hours in the presence of a catalyst selected from group comprising salts of Fe, Co, Mn, Mo and Ni; a cocatalyst selected from salts of Mn and Cu; a promoter and a bromine source selected from cobalt bromide, sodium bromide and zinc bromide and 0.05-3 times weight of toluene of a carboxylic acid solvent selected from acetic acid, propionic acid and benzoic acid, and a continuous air stream to obtain benzaldehyde (40-50%) with by-products in 40-50% of selectivity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
