PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the abnormality of a gate current and to protect a power conversion apparatus by a method wherein a Rogowski coil is mounted at the inside of a hole in a printed-circuit board. ;SOLUTION: A Rogowski coil 6 in which a spiral coil is formed in a circumferential shape and which is covered with an insulating member is arranged at the inside of a hole in a printed-circuit board 5, and it is installed so as to be situated between a cathode electrode 7 and an annular gate electrode 3 when a gate turn-off thyristor GTO1 is mounted on the printed-circuit board 5. The output wire of the Rogowski coil 6 is connected, by a coaxial cable, to a current detector which is provided at the inside of a driver circuit 4. The current detector is provided with an integrating means which integrates the output of the Rogowski coil 6, and the GTO1 is controlled so as to be turned on and off according to the output of the integrating means. In this manner, a cathode current can be detected by using the Rogowski coil 6, the shortage of the gate current or the breakdown of the GTO1 is detected on the basis of the detection value of the cathode current, and the operation of this power conversion apparatus can be stopped.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
